Warning signs of gum disease
Gum disease is often painless at first. Watch for these signs.
- Bleeding when brushingPink on your brush or when you spit is the most common early sign.
- Red, swollen gumsHealthy gums are pale pink and firm, not red or puffy.
- Bad breathBacteria under the gums cause a stale taste and smell that doesn't go away.
- Receding gumsTeeth look longer as the gum line pulls back and roots show.
- Loose or shifting teethGaps appear or your bite feels different as support is lost.
- Sensitivity or pusExposed roots feel sensitive; pus near the gums means infection.
The stages of gum disease
Gum disease develops slowly. The earlier it's treated, the simpler and more successful the treatment. Tap each stage.
Healthy gums Firm, pink gums that fit snugly around each tooth and don't bleed.
Keep it upGingivitis Plaque irritates the gum edge, making it red, puffy and prone to bleeding when you brush.
Fully reversibleEarly periodontitis Tartar builds below the gum. Pockets form and the gum and bone start to pull away from the teeth.
Treatable, stops progressionAdvanced periodontitis Deep pockets, receding gums and bone loss. Teeth can loosen and shift.
Needs specialist careWhat's a gum pocket?
Between each tooth and the gum is a tiny groove. In healthy gums it's 1–3 mm deep. When tartar and bacteria build up below the gum, the gum and bone pull away and this groove deepens into a pocket. We measure every pocket with a gentle probe to see exactly where treatment is needed.

Gum treatment questions
Bleeding gums, cost, deep cleaning and recession.
Why do my gums bleed when I brush?
Bleeding is usually the first sign of gingivitis, caused by plaque at the gum line. It's reversible with professional cleaning and good brushing and flossing. Don't stop brushing; see us for a check-up.
Is gum disease curable?
Gingivitis is fully reversible. Periodontitis can't be completely undone, but treatment stops it progressing and keeps your teeth healthy for years with regular maintenance.
Is deep cleaning painful?
We numb the area first, so deep cleaning is comfortable. Your gums may feel tender for a day or two afterwards.
How much does gum treatment cost?
Our current offers include teeth cleaning from ₹1,500, deep teeth and gum cleaning from ₹1,999 and laser gum cleaning from ₹4,500. Gum surgery and grafting are quoted after assessment.
Can receding gums grow back?
Gums don't grow back on their own, but gum grafting can cover exposed roots and rebuild the gum line.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Every six months for most people, or every three to four months if you've had gum disease.
